It is never too early to take a trip to a museum!
We are booking now for 2017!
Younger students learn best when they are asked to participate. Our Workshops and Colonial Living Days Programs help young visitors experience what it was like to live in Colonial times.
This page targets children in grades 1-4; for programs in 5th grade and up, please visit our Middle School Programs page.
Junior Colonial Living Days (grades 1-4)
Allow your young students to experience history for themselves, with a variety of fun, hands-on activities. Throughout the day, your students may:
- Don colonial clothing and learn about the wardrobe of a colonial child
- Smell and touch herbs commonly used for housekeeping, while hand-making sachets to bring home
- Hear about the day in the life of a militia man from a local Revolutionary War participant
- Try out some colonial games, including hoops and graces
- Participate in a mock one-room school house demonstration – careful not to get the dunce cap!
Cost: $7 per child; 90 minute program.
There is a 30 student minimum requirement to book Junior Colonial Living Days program.
Letters To a Young Nation (grades K-2)
Travel back in time with the three youngest members of the Gilman Family and find out what it was like to grow up during the American Revolution. See history through the eyes of the Gilman children, view early American currency and create a scrapbook by using museum images and your own thoughts.
Cost: $5 per child; 75 minute program.
Colonial History Day at the Museum (grades 2-4)
Make a full day of your visit and enjoy both activities above!
Cost: $10 per child; two 90 minute programs with a break in between for on-grounds lunch.
We recommend 1 adult chaperone per each 6 children. Additional adults beyond the 1:6 ratio are $5 each. One-on-one aides are free.
