Become a Volunteer

From working in our Gift Shop to assisting us at special events, mailings, gardening and more, there are many ways to volunteer at the Museum. Read below for more details and to fill out a very brief form so we may contact you to discuss your interest.

Guides

Take visitors on guided tours or answer questions as people tour the Museum on their own. Guiding opportunities are available May through November and in the off-season for group tours. Tours last about 1 to 1½ hours and involve standing, walking and climbing stairs.

Educators

Do you like working with kids? Become an educator! Teach focused educational programs and give tours to visiting school groups. Tours involve standing, walking and climbing stairs.

Shop Associates

Are you a “people person?” Consider working in our Museum Shop, greeting visitors, and selling admission tickets, memberships and merchandise. This job includes operating a cash register and credit card machine. Between visitors help keep the shop stocked and tidy.

Events

Come enjoy the museum’s events while helping to make them a success.  Museum events include lectures, Beer for History, the American Independence Festival and more.  Volunteers assist with the set-up, admissions, guest services, programming and clean-up.  Events run between 2 and 8 hours. American Independence Festival

In order for our 28th American Independence Festival on July 14, 2018 to be successful, we need the help of more than 100 individual volunteers in the days leading up to the event and on the Festival day itself. Commit to 4 hours at the event, or help plan the event this winter and spring!

Volunteer Benefits

Long Term volunteers are classified as those who volunteer a minimum of one day a week for the duration of the museum season. Short Term volunteers are denoted by a ★ and are classified as those who volunteer on a more temporary basis.
