Become an Intern

BECOME AN INTERN

The American Independence Museum welcomes college and high school students to apply for summer internships.

Summer Internship Program

Each summer, the American Independence Museum hosts student interns with an interest in history, museum sciences, education, and the non-profit sector. Working closely with museum staff and volunteers, interns have the opportunity to learn how museums operate on a day-to-day basis.

All internships will provide a solid introduction to museum work, but each intern will focus on one of the following areas:

  • Education: Developing and executing educational programs
  • Programs & Visitor Services: Day-to-day museum operations including events and tours
  • Curatorial: Researching our museum collection and assisting with exhibits
  • Development: Supporting fundraising efforts and enriching our social media presence

Additionally, all interns will learn to give tours of the museum, and have a research project to work on, which will be presented at the conclusion of the internship.

Details and To Apply

The duration of the internship is at least 8-10 weeks. The intern will set his/her own schedule, which will consist of at least two days a week during the museum’s open hours (Tuesday – Saturday, 9:00am – 4:00pm). With his/her schedule, the intern should be flexible and available during select holidays and weekends where appropriate. Intern must be available during the American Independence Festival (July 11).

Although the position is unpaid, this is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a Museum, and may be eligible for course credit (check with your school!).

To apply, please submit a resume and cover letter – with internship area (Education, Programs & Visitor Services, Curatorial, or Development) clearly stated in subject heading and on cover letter – to [email protected].
